YouTuber Sends Lawyer After UFC to Stop ‘Unfair’ Takedown Notices

Frustrated by the continued takedowns, MacKay decided to take a stand. He reached out to the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) to help him address the matter. The EFF was happy to oblige and this week attorney Alex Moss sent a letter to the UFC, demanding that it stops sending unwarranted notices. – Ernesto, TorrentFreak » http://bit.ly/2VHIdmW

Emilio Estevez Uses Some Public Domain Footage In Film, So Universal Studios Forces Original Public Domain Footage Offline

There was just one problem. It appears that Estevez included a clip of “Your Life Work: The Librarian” within the movie (in which he, himself, plays a librarian). He, of course, is free to do so (thanks to the public domain), and having put that clip into his movie doesn’t magically make that clip covered by copyright. But what the fuck does Universal Pictures care about pesky little things like the public domain and librarians’ YouTube accounts? It’s a big important Hollywood studio, and if it stomps out public domain material and ends up giving strikes to actual librarians, well, it’s all good because it must “stop piracy.” – Mike Masnick, Techdirt » http://bit.ly/2VmiuPW

Official YouTube and YouTube TV apps from Google are coming to Amazon Fire TV devices

Three Google apps will be coming to Fire TV devices. The first is a YouTube app to access youtube.com content. The app will be capable of streaming 4K HDR content at 60 fps. That’s an important distinction because one of the downsides of the Fire TV’s current YouTube access through the Silk and Firefox browsers is its limitation to 4K non-HDR content at 30 fps. The YouTube app will also support Alexa, so you’ll be able to better search and control playback of YouTube content by voice. – Elias Saba, AFTVnews » http://bit.ly/2ItXWPl
